In many jurisdictions, permit applicants are required to have an active business license at the time of submission. Symbium verifies your business license status in real time against the jurisdiction's official database.
Before troubleshooting, note the following limitations:
- Symbium cannot update your license status. License records are maintained by the jurisdiction and must be updated in their system first.
- Symbium cannot verify your license based on a payment receipt, a copy of the business license document, or written confirmation.
Common reasons for verification failure
If you see an Ineligible Contractor Selected notice in your project indicating that the contractor's local business license is invalid, it is likely due to one of the following:
- Recent payment or renewal. Your license may have recently been paid for or renewed. Jurisdiction staff often need to manually update the database that Symbium verifies against. This can take anywhere from a few hours to a few business days.
- License status not fully processed. Your license may be visible in the jurisdiction's system but its status may not yet reflect recent changes. Symbium can only accept licenses with a fully processed status such as "LICENSED" or "ACTIVE".
How to resolve the issue
Your Symbium project includes a notice under the Add a Contractor field with a link to the jurisdiction's licensing system (when publicly available) and the designated contact for license records.
- Confirm your license status in the jurisdiction's system. Use the link in your project to search your record and verify key fields such as status and expiration date.
- Contact the jurisdiction to update your record. If your recent changes are not reflected, or if your status shows a processing state such as "NEW" or "RENEWED", contact the jurisdiction directly and request that they update your record to the fully processed status.
When to contact Symbium support
If the jurisdiction confirms that your license is fully processed and updated in their system but verification continues to fail in your Symbium project, contact support with details about the jurisdiction and the specific issue you are seeing.
