How Revisions Work on Symbium
If you need to make a correction or update to your project after the original application was created, you can submit a revision through Symbium.
Symbium supports revision applications in many jurisdictions. Jurisdictions decide whether to enable revisions on Symbium. When revisions are supported, you will see a Revisions tab in your Symbium project.
This tab will direct you to create a revision project pre-populated with the information from your original project. From there, you can update your project scope and Symbium will generate a revised approval document.
When You Should Submit a Revision Through Symbium
A revision should be submitted through Symbium when the scope of work for your project changes after the original application was created or approved. Common examples include:
- Changes to the project design or system configuration
- Updates to equipment or materials
- Modifications that affect the scope reflected in your original Symbium approval document.
If your change is outside the scope Symbium captures. For example, relocating equipment to a position that does not affect code compliance; check with your jurisdiction first to confirm whether a revision is required. If a revision is needed, describe the change in the Description of Revisions field when submitting.
When submitting a revision, your application will begin with the information from your original project so you can update only the necessary fields. See this article for information on completing and tracking your revision.
Changes That Must Be Submitted Directly to Your Jurisdiction
Some changes cannot be handled through Symbium's revision process and must be addressed directly with your jurisdiction.
- Address changes. If the permit was submitted for the wrong address, contact your city or county directly to discuss your options. In some cases, the jurisdiction may require a new permit application.
- Incorrect permit record information. If the permit record contains incorrect information such as owner details or contact information, these updates must be made by the jurisdiction. Symbium cannot modify official permit records once they have been created in the jurisdiction's permitting system. In some cases, a jurisdiction may require a new permit application so your information on Symbium matches that of the permit record in their system.
If the Revisions Tab Is Not Available
If you do not see a Revisions tab in your project, revisions are not currently managed through Symbium for your jurisdiction. In these cases, revisions must be submitted directly to your city or county. Refer to the instructions provided in your Symbium project, or contact your jurisdiction directly.
To generate a new approval document, clone your existing project and make the necessary changes. See this article for information on cloning a project.
